Skyuka Hall is dedicated to empowering students with unique learning differences by providing a personalized educational experience that prioritizes individualized instruction and small class sizes (1:6). Many of our students have struggled in traditional classroom settings due to a lack of resources and personalized teaching methods. At Skyuka Hall, we foster an environment that not only supports academic growth but also celebrates each student’s strengths.
To extend this support beyond the school year, Skyuka Hall offers the Bridging the Academic Gap summer program. This specialized program provides students with targeted, evidence-based interventions in reading, writing, and mathematics. Whether students are currently enrolled at Skyuka Hall or part of the broader community, the program is designed to help those who need additional academic support build essential skills and confidence and open the door for students in our community to share in this level of support with our four weeks of intensive intervention.
Program Schedule and Benefits
The Bridging the Academic Gap summer program runs Monday through Thursday for four weeks, helping students avoid the "summer slide" and reinforcing key academic skills. The program is structured to:
✔ Provide direct, explicit, and individualized instruction
✔ Utilize multi-sensory and evidence-based teaching strategies
✔ Build students' confidence and academic abilities
✔ Offer high school credit recovery in maths and English (.5 credit)
✔ Prepare students for a successful start to the new school year
Students who participate in the program demonstrate improvement in reading and math, gaining both the knowledge and self-assurance needed to excel in their academic settings.
Evidence-Based Instruction for Academic Success
Our summer program incorporates proven intervention methodologies to address foundational academic gaps:
- Wilson Language Program – A structured, multi-sensory approach to reading remediation that strengthens phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students receive daily instruction tailored to their needs, ensuring mastery of literacy skills before progressing.
- Bridges Math Center Intervention – A hands-on, sequential program that helps students develop numeracy, computation, problem-solving, and application skills. The multi-sensory approach ensures active engagement and measurable progress in mathematics.
High School Credit Recovery
In addition to academic intervention, Skyuka Hall offers credit recovery for high school math and English. This opportunity is designed for students who need to retake a course or improve their grades to stay on track for graduation. Our structured, supportive environment ensures that students receive the individualized instruction they need to successfully complete required coursework and regain academic confidence.
